Laura St. Mars

Born on November 25, 1935 to John and Marie Bench of Pittsburgh, Pa, she was the eldest of five children. An exceptionally talented artist and pianist, Laura always strove to excel in everything she did, though her talents were often overshadowed by modest and dignified demeanor. Like many artists, Laura valued her privacy.

After graduating from Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh with honors, she was awarded a job at The Aluminum Company of America’s (ALCOA) legal department as legal secretary. She worked there several years before deciding to enter the convent, The Sisters of Charity in Greensburg, PA, where she dedicated her talents teaching young parochial students for nearly twenty years. She struggled with the decision to leave the convent to pursue her life as a lay person, but it ultimately proved to be the right one, for she then met and married Adrian St Mars, the love of the rest of her life.

Laura is survived by her siblings: Joan Predmore, Stephie Bench, and Mary McCague (Ted), and three stepsons: David, Richard (Lisa), and Glenn (Cindy). She was predeceased by her mother and father, her younger brother John, and her beloved husband Adrian.

A memorial service will be held for Laura at St. Francis Church in Englewood, Fl at a date to be determined.

A debt of gratitude is also extended to the dedicated staff at The Gallery in North Port, who lovingly cared for Laura over the last years of her life.
